Food Additives

The new Regulation (EC) No 1333/2008 on Food Additives provides for the establishment of an EU list of food additives approved for use in foods and conditions of use. The transfer into Annex II of Regulation 1333/2008 of all the food additives authorized in the old directives will be completed in summer 2011.

All additives of relevance for the oils and fats sector (ie. formerly in Directive 94/36 on colours and Directive 95/2 miscellaneous) have been properly transferred into the ‘fats and oils, and fat emulsions’ category (02, sub category 02.1 Fats and oils essentially free from water (excluding anhydrous milkfat)).
