Food & Feed Safety

According to the Treaty of the European Union, the internal market can only be functioning properly if consumers are protected uniformly throughout the EU. The EU sees a high level of the protection of the consumer as a contribution to its economical and social interests.

The General Food Law Regulation EC/178/2002 lays down the general principles for food law and defines responsibilities for authorities and operators in the framework of food and feed safety. Operators are primarily responsible for the safety of the products they bring on the market.

FEDIOL has over the years developed codes of practices and voluntary safety standards to guide members in achieving high level of food and feed safety in oils, fats, meals and by-products.

Today's food and feed safety challenges require a comprehensive vision:

a full understanding of defined responsibilities and a leadership attitude throughout all steps of food and feed safety management.
