Sourcing of sustainable palm oil

FEDIOL is an affiliate member of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) since 2004. At the end of 2014, the total certified production capacity reached 12.65 million Mt. The sales of certified sustainable palm oil have increased significantly to reach 5.35 million tons in 2014. RSPO sets as a target to achieving 100% Certified Sustainable Palm Oil (CSPO) up-take by 2020 in Europe.

In 2014, FEDIOL joined forces with several other European associations (CAOBISCO, IMACE, AIBI and FEDIMA) in a coalition called European Sustainable Palm Oil Advocacy Group, ESPOAG. ESPOAG addresses questions arising at European level with regard to the palm oil, essentially on sustainability, but also on nutrition. ESPOAG provides a platform for coordination between the national palm oil platforms and other EU palm oil players. In December 2015, FEDIOL and other European and national palm oil stakeholders committed to mutually work towards the 2020 objective of sustainable palm oil, complementing the governmental Declaration of Amsterdam with a business statement.

FEDIOL undertakes a yearly survey which covers intake volumes of crude palm oil and palm kernel oil entering the EU refineries of member companies participating in the survey. The results for the years 2015-2021 are available here.
