VOC

Crushing plants are using solvents as extraction agents and vegetable oil processing plants may be using solvents for fractionation of oil. It is in the economic and environmental interest to limit loss of solvent as much as possible.  Emissions of solvents are subject to the Directive 2010/75 on industrial emissions.

According to the above directive, the European Commission is to organise an information exchange on the use of organic substances and their potential substitues between Member States and the activities concerned. Further to this, in 2008, FEDIOL was involved in co-drafting of the Guidelines on VOC Substitution for its sector The document concludes that no economically feasible alternatives are available to present-day use of solvents in our industry.
